Whether doing laundry, cleaning yards and kennels, or walking, training and spending calming time with the shelter dogs, our volunteers are the heart and soul of K-9 PALS.
ORIENTATION: CALL 805-681-4369 AND LEAVE YOUR NAME AND NUMBER TO RESERVE A SPACE. (please no emails)
Leave your name and phone number (speak slowly and repeat). If you are between the ages of 12 and 18, please state your age and give the name of the parent or guardian who will be volunteering with you. We will call back to confirm.
Orientations are held at the SB County Animal Shelter, 5473 Overpass Rd. Please wear long pants or jeans, and close-toed shoes (no sandals).
Open Paw Training Program K-9 PALS has adopted the Open Paw Four-level training program in which volunteers learn to teach dogs to feel comfortable in the shelter environment and to enjoy the company of all sorts of people.
Volunteers learn to teach dogs basic manners, such as COME, SIT, DOWN and LEAVE IT. Volunteers also are shown how to teach dogs to present themselves in the most impressive way to potential adopters so that they can find happy new homes-and stay in those happy homes!
